Terms and Conditions
The agreement between you and African Lisbon Tour when you book a place on the walking tour.
Last updated: 9 September 2026
These terms apply when you book the African Lisbon Tour walking tour through this website. Please read them before you pay: completing a booking means you accept them.
1. Who you are contracting with
Your contract is with African Lisbon Tour, Lisbon, Portugal (info@africanlisbontour.com, +351 932 273 536), referred to below as "we" or "us".
2. What you are booking
A guided walking tour of Lisbon's African heritage neighbourhoods, lasting approximately four hours and covering roughly four kilometres at a relaxed pace. The route runs from Praca do Comercio through Mouraria and Intendente to Martim Moniz and a final diaspora community stretch.
Included: your guide, an Afro-Portuguese food tasting, cultural
commentary and community introductions.
Not included: additional food and drink, transport to and from the
meeting point, personal purchases, and the optional post tour dinner.
Tours run on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Start times are seasonal: 14:00 from November to April, and 15:00 from May to October. There are no morning tours, and we do not currently offer private tours.
3. Prices and payment
- The tour is priced from EUR 42 per person. The price shown at checkout is the price you pay, in euro, including any applicable Portuguese VAT.
- Payment is taken in full at the time of booking, by card through Stripe or through PayPal. We do not accept cash for the tour itself.
- Your place is only held once payment has succeeded. You will receive a confirmation email; if it does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder and then contact us.
4. Cancellations, refunds and changes
Our cancellation terms are set out in full on the cancellation policy page and form part of these terms. In summary:
| When you cancel | Refund |
|---|---|
| 48 hours or more before the tour | Full refund |
| Between 24 and 48 hours before | 50% refund |
| Less than 24 hours before | No refund |
| No show on the day | No refund |
To cancel or move a booking, email info@africanlisbontour.com or use the reschedule link in your confirmation email. Refunds go back to the original payment method and normally take five to ten working days to appear.
If we cancel a tour, for example because of severe weather or illness, you choose between a full refund and moving to another date.
5. Punctuality
This one matters, so we state it plainly. Arrive 15 minutes before the start time. The tour departs on time, exactly like a flight. Guests who arrive after departure cannot be added to the group and are not refunded, and once the tour has started we cannot answer calls or messages.
6. Fitness, accessibility and safety
The tour involves around four kilometres of walking on uneven historic streets and includes roughly 235 steps. It is not suitable for wheelchair users and may be demanding if you have limited mobility. If you are unsure whether the route works for you, or you are travelling with young children or while pregnant, contact us before booking and we will describe the route honestly so you can decide.
You remain responsible for your own belongings and for following your guide's reasonable safety instructions. We may end a guest's participation, without refund, if their behaviour puts others at risk or makes the tour unpleasant for the group, including racist or abusive conduct, which we do not tolerate.
7. The optional dinner
After the tour the group usually eats together at Mambo, an African restaurant with vegan options. This is optional and is not part of the price. You pay the restaurant directly, in cash in euro or by PayPal, and should budget at least EUR 25 per person. Please confirm in advance if you plan to join so the table can be booked.
8. Photography
We sometimes take photographs on the tour for our website and social media. Tell your guide on the day if you would rather not appear, and we will respect that. If a photo of you is already published and you want it removed, email us and we will take it down.
9. Our liability
We provide the tour with reasonable care and skill. We are liable for losses you suffer as a foreseeable result of our breaking this contract or failing to use reasonable care, but we are not liable for events outside our reasonable control, for personal belongings you lose or leave behind, or for your travel arrangements to and from Lisbon. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. None of this affects the statutory rights you have as a consumer.
10. Right of withdrawal
Under EU consumer law, the 14 day right of withdrawal does not apply to leisure services supplied on a specific date, which includes this tour. Our cancellation policy above applies instead, and it is more generous than the law requires.
11. Complaints and applicable law
If something goes wrong, tell us first at info@africanlisbontour.com and we will try to put it right. These terms are governed by Portuguese law and disputes fall to the Portuguese courts. As a consumer you may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr, and you may be entitled to refer a dispute to a Portuguese consumer arbitration centre.
12. Multi day trips
Trips to Africa and Brazil are booked through trips.africanlisbontour.com and are governed by the terms published on that site, which include a 25% deposit and a different cancellation schedule.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your booking is the one published when you paid.
